2082 of 2819 fish supplements examined by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas made health claims.

Only 399 (19.2%) of the 2082 fish supplements with health claims on their bottles employed qualified and FDA-approved claims, which is concerning.

The remaining 80.8% of fish oil supplements with a health claim made “structure/function” claims such “promote heart health.”
